About Us
Welcome to the KG Ranch. Established in 1978, our headquarters are located south of the community of Three Forks along the Jefferson River. We currently run approximately 1200 head of registered Black Angus cattle that are wintered here at our headquarters and summered between Pony and Three Forks, MT.

We purchased our first registered cows in 1980 from Rolling Rock and have continued to build our registered bulls with purchases from Cedar Hills (our first pathfinder bull, Batman), Hinman Angus and Sitz Angus. We strive to produce a cow that will work in any environment, registered or commercial, and produce a calf with a high weaning weight and a carcass that will grade.

Friday, December 5, 2008, we host our 12th annual production sale, a one day event offering up the best in registered coming 2 year old bulls, registered bred heifers and synchronized AI bred commercial heifers.

The KG bases its genetic selection of mother cows on a moderately framed cow with strong maternal traits. We select and breed cattle with calving ease, reproductive efficiency, easy fleshing ability and moderate size. In order to raise the highest quality angus possible, we breed to only the finest bulls. The 2007 crop of calves to be offered December 5, 2008, are represented by many elite sires that include Contrast, Sitz Upward, Gartner Denowh New Design, Power Alliance, ER Focus J9, Sitz Rainmaker 9723, HA Midland & HA Titleist (both BR Midland sons), Sitz Alliance 7544, MAR Jefferson, ER Justice, Retail Product, Connealy Onward, KMK Alliance I87, Connealy H6 146.

Our steers, over the last four years, were killed at an average of 13½ months of age, with only 203 total days on feed (wean to kill)! That is 30 to 45 days ahead of their contemporaries in the area. The following is an excerpt from a letter received from Ken Conway, president of Angus GeneNet.

“I wanted to write and tell your customers how your cattle have done in our program the last two years. Your cattle have consistently graded over 88% choice or better, with 99% being yield grade 1, 2, or 3’s. These are not only cattle that will grade and give back a carcass premium, but will also gain and convert in the feedlot, which is exactly what the cattle of the future need to do. As we move into the value-based marketing, cattle like yours will be worth even more to you and your customers in the future. With your genetics, they could earn large premiums for their cattle just as you have done and also get their carcass data to help them sell their cattle in the future.”

We feel this confirms our approach to select and breed cattle with calving ease, reproductive efficiency, easy fleshing ability and moderate size. The cattle are matched to the available feed resources in our commercial type environment. We select efficient cattle that will go and and compete for a living - cattle that have rapid growth, are early maturing and most profitable.
